Call for expressions of interest – Director, Teaching & Learning Centre

The Australian Council of Deans of Science (ACDS) is calling for expressions of interest for the Directorship of its Teaching and Learning Centre.  The appointment is for an initial period of two years.

The ACDS Teaching and Learning Centre is the national hub for practice, leadership and innovation in university science and mathematics education. The Centre exists as a network of associate deans learning and teaching, discipline education networks and other recognized learning and teaching leaders. Its public face and organizational nucleus is its website, hosted by the ACDS.

The Centre was established to inform science faculties and their stakeholders about quality teaching and learning in science and mathematics, to promote best practice innovation in science and mathematics teaching and learning, and to foster widespread improvement in practice. It seeks to identify and promote consensus, providing a strong national voice on teaching and learning. It achieves these through a series of leadership webinars held every two months culminating in an annual national leadership conference, and an annual practitioner conference, called ACSME, which attracts in the order of 300 participants.

From these activities, or via external funding, special interest groups arise to pursue projects and establish resources which are made available from the Centre website. Current projects are described in the ACDS strategic document, and resources from past projects appear on the website.

The Centre Director is responsible for strategic leadership and oversight of Centre activities, maintenance of relationships and regular reporting to the ACDS Executive as the governing body of the Centre. It is an honorary position attracting an annual honorarium of $20,000. It requires a commitment in the order of one day per week. The ACDS may assist in negotiating time release if that appears appropriate.

The Centre Director will be a person with substantial experience and leadership in teaching and learning in Australian university science, and good connections with its teaching and learning community.

Submitting an Expression of Interest:
Expressions of interest should be a maximum of two-pages, submitted to acdsexec@gmail.com by close of business on Monday July 12th.
