Professor Jillian Hamilton is the inaugural Director: Research, Innovation and Impact at QUT. Previously she led the Academic Development portfolio at QUT, including strategic approaches to professional academic development for early career academics and sessional academics, was Course Coordinator: Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice; and initiated and lead the Sessional Academic Success program, with Sessional Academic Success Advisors located in sixteen schools. Jillian is a Principal Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (PFHEA). In 2016 Jillian received an Australian Award for University Teaching: Program Award. In 2013 Jillian received an Australian Award for University Teaching: Teaching Excellence (Arts and Humanities); and a Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning (Australian Awards for University Teaching) for her design and implementation of sessional academic programs and the Award for Institutional Excellence and Overall Winner of the National Leadership Summit: Benchmarking Leadership for Sessional Teaching. In 2015 Jillian was joint recipient of a QUT Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence. These awards build upon a Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award (QUT), a QUT Award for Institutional Advancement in Learning and Teaching, and an Award for Excellence in Teaching Using Multimedia (UQ), a Deans Award for Excellence in Teaching and a commendation for postgraduate supervision. In 2014 Jillian was QUT’s Director: Student Success and Retention, with a portfolio including the Student Success Program; Monitoring Student Learning Engagement; First Year Experience and Retention; and Peer Programs Strategy. In 2008 she was a QUT Teaching Fellow. Jillian supervises higher research degree candidates (at PhD level) in various fields of digital media including technology for education, inter-media art, experimental and interactive film, digital story-telling, visual communication, interface and interaction design, and digital media applications for higher education. She has 8 PhD completions to date, and is also a regular PhD examiner. She led an Australian Government Office for Learning and Teaching (OLT) Strategic Priority Commissioned Good Practice Report: Postgraduate Research and Coursework Degrees in 2015, and in 2013 led an OLT Teaching Leadership for Excellence Grant: Building Distributed Leadership for Effective Supervision of Creative Practice Higher Research Degrees (LE12-2264), with project partners University of Melbourne; AUT University Auckland; University of Western Sydney and COFA, University of NSW. she has also been a project team member of several other OLT funded projects. She regularly assesses national and international awards and grants. Jillian is a course reviewer and external examiner for art and design courses in Australian and International universities.
