Supporting leadership in inclusive assessment policy and practice

2 September 2025

Student diversity in higher education is increasing across Australia and New Zealand. Inclusive assessment benefits all students’ learning and retention. However, current systems rely on accommodations rather than improving assessment design in ways that are culturally informed. Little is known about how leaders define inclusive assessment, nor how institutional policies support inclusive practices. This project explores sector-wide understandings of inclusive assessment policy and practice through a survey of CAULLT nominees and follow-up interviews. Case studies and an inclusive assessment framework will be developed and disseminated to the CAULLT membership via a report, open educational resource, webinar, and policy brief.
