This project aims to understand what educational leadership looks like throughout an academic’s career, and how academic practice can better support emerging educational leaders in higher education. Through semi-structured interviews, the identities of leaders at all career stages will be explored, allowing the identification of contextual factors (e.g., gender, age, resources) that may contribute to the formation, development and attrition of educational leaders in Australasian universities. In acknowledgement of the increasing casualisation of the sector, this project will purposely include the perspectives of sessional academics on leadership. This project holds implications for how emerging leaders are conceptualised and supported within their institutions and professional networks.
