Professor Robert Fitzgerald has recently been appointed as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Education Strategy at Charles Darwin University overseeing excellence and innovation in learning and teaching. The position brings together the central areas responsible for education strategy and curriculum design, learning and digital futures, academic professional development and academic quality and review. Professor Fitzgerald has built an international reputation for innovation in education design in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, working with schools and universities in Australia and internationally. Prior to his recent appointment, Robert was Professor of Education and Director, INSPIRE Centre for Innovation in Education and Training in the Faculty of Education, Science, Technology and Mathematics at the University of Canberra. At UC he led the design and development of the internationally recognised INSPIRE Centre for Innovation in Education & Training. He led a $1.2 million curriculum renewal project for his Faculty designed to improve flexibility, innovation, retention and engagement. He has extensive leadership experience across schools, universities and diverse research projects, designing and implementing strategic, user-centred initiatives. Robert has secured over $17 million in research funding. His two most recent projects included a Mixed Reality project with Pearson UK and Microsoft and, a STEM project led by SERC UC, focussed on the early years.
