This webinar will explore how institutions currently frame the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and how scholarship can be invoked as a fundamental element of Australian higher education. Risks associated with Individual teaching staff not engaged in scholarship related to their teaching will also be explored, along with how these risks can be mitigated. The session will conclude with the role of CAULLT to support engagement with scholarship and how institutions can develop culture of continuing scholarship.​

Presenters/Facilitators

Angela Carbone

Angela is the Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor Education (Learning, Teaching and Quality) in the STEM College at RMIT and a Professor in Computing Education. She has over 10 years  experience in senior/executive roles in the STEMM disciplines and more broadly across in Higher Education. She has a well established reputation in developing large scale national projects with successful outcomes, influencing positive change within complex organizational settings. She is the co-lead of the ISSoTL special interest group in the Scholarship of Leading and is currently the Director of the Australian Awards for University Teaching.

Francine Brennan

Francine Brennan holds a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Psychology, and is currently completing a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Academic Practice. Francine has over 25 years experience in the tertiary education sector in governance, accreditation, academic support and student services roles with exposure to both the VET and Higher Education sectors. Francine is currently Senior Manager, Quality Enhancement for STEM College at RMIT. Leading program reviews, developing and implementing processes to promote continuous improvement in educational design and the student experience. Advocating for stronger scholarship of learning and teaching and building capability in the academic workforce to deliver a quality learning experiences in a dynamic environment are priorities for Francine.

Professor Shona Leitch

Shona is the Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor Education (Learning, Teaching and Quality) at RMIT and is the Head of the Centre for Academic Quality and Enhancement (CAQE), and Head of The Centre for Education Innovation and Development (CEID). As ADVCE LTQ, Shona is responsible for delivering an enterprise-wide approach to educational innovation and academic quality management to drive and support continuous improvement, enhancement, and excellence across all accredited programs and products.

Glen O’Grady

Glen is the Director of Academic Experience and Success at RMIT Vietnam. He has previously held senior learning and teaching roles at the Australian National University, the National University of Singapore, the Republic Polytechnic and the University of Queensland and was a Visiting Scientist at CSIRO in the Immersive Learning Project.
